Deaf Community Access Centre (DEAF-CAC) offers free internet access to deaf persons. In Montreal, there are two DEAF - CAC centres. One centre is for LSQ speaking deaf persons and is located at the Centre Alpha-Sourd (CA-S). The other centre is for ASL speaking deaf persons and is situated at the Deaf Anglo Literacy Center (DALC).
The centres are equipped with webcams, scanners, printers, i2eyes videophones, DVD-players and computers with Vista, XP, and Mac OS X Tiger operating systems. Recently, the CAC centres set up wireless routers, so those who bring their own laptops can easily connect it to the Internet through the wireless network.
CAC’s instructors help novices in their understanding of computer use and the Internet browsing. The instructors are deaf and speak sign language. The centres provide also the course on basic computer skills.
